The Environmental Impact Quotient

A Method to Measure the Environmental Impact of Pesticides

The Environmental Impact Quotient (EIQ) is a formula created to provide growers with data regarding the environmental and health impacts of their pesticide options so they can make better-informed decisions regarding their pesticide selection.

About the EIQ Calculator

The EIQ calculator was also developed to aid users in computing Field Use EIQ values, and facilitate comparison of pest management options and systems. NYSIPM periodically calculates EIQ values for new pesticide active ingredients and reviews old EIQ values. Alejandro Calixto and Brian Eshenaur lead these efforts.

EIQ Expained: The Original Paper

The original paper introducing and describing the EIQ was written by members of the NYS Integrated Pest Management Program (NYSIPM) in 1992.
