This is a seasonal scouting report giving growers in the Western New
York area information on the presence of sweet corn pests and recommendations
on scouting and thresholds. The report is written by
Abby Seaman, NYS IPM's Area Extension Educator
for Vegetables.
For 5.22.01
Traps were put up at a few locations last week, and ECB moth flights have started.
It is too early to start scouting for ECB in the field. Demonstrations have
shown no benefit from insecticide applications during the whorl stage when compared
with well timed application at tassel emergence. I looked at a field of plastic
corn this morning and saw no sign of ECB egg masses or flea beetle feeding.
The threshold for flea beetles is 6 per hundred plants.
The numbers below are the weekly total for each location.
