Professional activities

Responsibilities

  • Provide hardware and software computer support for the IPM staff.

  • Design and maintain the Northeast Weather Association (NEWA) website. NEWA is an organization offering growers, consultants, food processors, agricultural industry representatives, and others access to the information provided by a network of electronic weather instruments. This information is tailored to fit the specific needs of individual members.

Current/Ongoing Projects

  • Oversee the computer program that runs the disease forecasts and the degree day calculations for the NEWA website. Add new crop diseases as assigned.

  • Develop software programs using macros and scripts, which are used by the IPM staff.

  • Develop training material and train IPM staff and Station employees about computer technology.

  • Keep abreast of changing technology and apply the technology to the IPM Program.

Accomplishments (Past Five Years)

  • Developed a disease-forecast program used to predict disease outbreaks in onions, tomatoes, potatoes, sweet corn, and alfalfa.

  • Developed a quality control feature in NEWA that targets erroneous data from the weather instruments.

  • Developed databases for the IPM Program; a grants database that helps Janet keep track of all the grants awarded by the IPM Program, a contacts database that has all mailing lists used by the IPM office staff and communications team, and a distance learning center search web database.

  • Developed various spreadsheets using macros to develop reports.

  • Updated all computers within IPM to Power Macs and maintained software such as Norton Antivirus.
